Question about shiva hinduism...?

What is the esoteric meaning behind the Ghanesha story, how come the ideal ascetic(shiva) gave birth to a deity which is the archetype of wordly trade?? is his role in trading a modern invention? Just a question as i have always been interested in shivaism, but I find the idea of the arcetype of Swami life being the father of a trading deity hard to fathom...
