Is this a lot of miles to have on an 8 year old car?

I have no idea about cars, like at all, and I'm looking to get a second hand beetle convertible. I've found one from 2003 that has 42,000 miles on it. It costs about $10,000 which is amazing, but I was wondering if that's a lot of miles for a car to have, and if like it'd break down after a year? Thanks, and sorry I'm so cartarded haha XxX
